One of their similarities is that both dance styles uses the French language for some of their dance terms and vocabularies. Nowadays, there are a lot of different Tango dance styles, some of which are being used in ballroom competitions. Dancers of this classical tap dance are often seen blending their footwork with upper body movements similar to that of jazz and ballet. Tappers are more popular in live performance and shows. Hoofers, on the other hand, are more focused on their footwork than upper body movements. They use very little arm and body movements during performance. Then, they both simply close their feet together, with the leader bringing his left foot together with his right, and the follower bringing her right foot together with her left. The leader then steps back using his right foot, and the follower simply steps forward with her left foot. After which, the leader then steps his left foot to the left, and the follower does the same with her right foot. African American Dance - From Rags To Riches Almost all traditional dances today have taken its root in the African American dance back in the early 17th and 18th century. If you look at it closely, we can safely say that most of the techniques and dance maneuvers of known styles have its root in the vernacular dance routines practiced by Africans during their migration to the American continent.
