The works The ShopBot is a cutter (which looks like a drill bit) that can move in all three axes, making 3D movements and cutting all kinds of shapes ad patterns on such materials as wood, plastic, foam, aluminum and others. The ShopBot CNC cuts materials like a saw on the X or Y direction and on any diagonal. Standard manufacturing concepts stated that machines should be operating at all times for maximum efficiency. That mindset was changed when the router they purchased became operational and produced in a few hours what their employees took two days to make. Commitment and patience, and not just a leap of faith, are certainly needed for a small shop owner when trying to upgrade his business. Since all of the axis work together, they can create better designs and shapes. How does the CNC wood router works? It is controlled, as mentioned by the CNC controller and the computer software. This would direct the movements of the motor to produce the design or shape. The software would have the drawing or the format in 2D or 3D image, it would then be converted into a tool path code like the G-code. These new machines can perform and execute sophisticated shapes and designs, and can switch tooling automatically. They also feature different design programs, with a built-in proviso that programmers can make changes on the fly and can install designs directly into the machine s computer. Now, drilling, boring, and shaping are done with precision, accuracy and speed. Like the good old traditional router, the new CNC router also moves in 3 directions (usually called X, Y, and Z directions.) The longest is the X axis which runs from front to back. The Y axis goes from left to right while the Z axis goes up and down. Moving in perfect synch with each other, these routers can carve some very complex shapes with flawless precision and accuracy. According to managers of machining centers, it is no longer just large manufacturers who are buying CNC equipments. Shops who have two to four people would also purchase CNC machines to help in their production. Craftsmen have realized that by using simple CNC equipments, they are able to produce more of their crafts, with high quality, therefore, increasing their sales.
