Aquascape Tutorial: HUGE XL Discus Islands Fish Tank (How To: Planted Aquarium Step By Step Guide)

Keep in mind that discus fish thrive in softer water. If your tap water is filled with chemicals, then the fish will not survive that long. You also have to remember that discus fish likes to live in large areas of water. So, you may want to buy a larger fish tank in order for you to make sure that the discus fish will be comfortable and not get subjected to a lot of stress. It is recommended to have at least 6 discus fish inside an aquarium. This is to prevent them from getting lonely and also prevent them from getting aggressive against their own kind. Discus fish are shy types of fishes. This is why you also need to put some ornaments and plants inside the aquarium. These things will serve as a place to hide for your discus fish. This may be a problem if you live in a place where hard water is abundant as you will need to bring down the hardness of the water as well as the PH. A reverse osmosis filter will be able to strip everything from the water and this will also lower the PH level as well as the hardness. Feeding Discus Fish is not that difficult to do. First you won t need to take them for walks, you don t have to give them baths, they don t demand much attention, and you don t really have to clean up after them after every while. Yes they still need some looking after but not as much as compared to our canine and feline friends. This doesn t mean though that once you have your tank, filled it up with water, and purchased your feed then your all done. They also come from the cichid family of fish and they like deep water. For this reason alone, you may want to get the largest and deepest aquarium that your home and budget can allow. You also have to remember that discus fish are social creatures. They live and travel in groups of at least 6. So, make sure that you have at least 6 discus fish swimming around in your aquarium in order to keep them happy and prevent them from getting lonely. So that you wouldn t be bothered of cleaning your tank or changing the water often, you could add some sufficient filtration system, some lighting, or maintain some bottom dwelling fish to help clean up the tank. If you don t know yet how to maintain the temperature and pH levels of your tank water, then it is not recommended for you to own a discus fish yet.
