CNC is short for Computer Numerical Control which is a method widely employed in modern woodworking business (and related production work) where a computer program controls the action of the machines used in all the work aspects. On the other hand, a ShopBot is the new do-it-all tool for woodworking and metal works. There are three kinds of hobby routers. You could do it on your own or you could purchase a kit or plan which would serve as a guide when building your hobby router. Specialty routers There are also CNC routers which are dedicated on special designs, they are called specialty CNC routers. Samples of specialty routers are engraving machines, 3D engraving machines and PCB routers. Some would sell because they are upgrading their production, closing down or relocating. Aside from that, local newspapers and hardware stores would often have listings of equipment up for sale. Check local woodworkers if they are thinking of changing or selling their equipment. Proper maintenance of your CNC woodworking equipment goes a long, long, way. Machining both ends Sometimes, a job requires you to machine both ends of a part held on a vise and you also need to try using one of the tools for the stop. Simply take of the tool s diameter and add 1/16 and incorporate this to the program. You can then bump the part against the tool, press the cycle start button, and the tool/stop moves out of the way. Mechanization of the processes Since the manual manufacturing process is replaced with automation, little supervision is needed from the operator. This would allow the operator to attend to other tasks. Mechanized processes would reduce product mistakes which are caused by human error brought about by fatigue or lack of skill. The CNC machine (computer numerical control) uses computer software and CNC controller electronics to drive the mechanical system. Like the good old traditional router, the new CNC router also moves in 3 directions (usually called X, Y, and Z directions.) The longest is the X axis which runs from front to back.
