Enjoy the Wonderland of a Winter Wedding
by: Mark Willigerod

Let the Magic Begin!

There is a crisp chill in the air and a blanket of snow on the ground. The horse drawn carriage seems like something off of a Christmas card, and you have never felt so romantic. Winter can be a magical time for a wedding. Even if you live in a part of the world where it never snows, a winter wedding can be filled with tradition and electricity.

Is a winter wedding for you?

Before you settle on a winter wedding, be sure that it is the right season for you and your groom. If you hate the snow, your toes freeze in temperatures below fifty degrees, and your face turns the color of a cozy fire in the winter wind, you might want to think about a wedding in the fall when the weather is a bit more agreeable.

Also, if you want a wedding outdoors, winter is obviously not the best choice. While it is possible to have an outdoor wedding in the winter, the cost of heating your guests, your flowers, your food, and yourself will be exorbitant. So make sure you have an indoor venue in mind.

Remember that a wedding around the time of a major holiday can be stressful, not only for the bride and groom, but also for the family and even the guests. With all the gifts people already buy at Christmastime, a wedding in the same week may seem like an added expense rather than a blessed occasion.

Winter wedding themes

Now, if you are still on board and want your wedding indoors during the winter, here are some ideas for beautiful themes that can really warm up your ceremony and reception:

" A Christmas theme is the most obvious. If you celebrate Christmas, decorate your venue with evergreen garlands, twinkling lights, red velvet bows, and large blooming poinsettias. Remember that a wedding at night usually requires more formal dress, so note this on the invitation.
" You can create a winter wonderland at your wedding. Simply decorate with plenty of white lace, crystal accessories, and at least one ice sculpture and you have a land of delicate ice and snow. A great way to make an entrance into your snow touched special day is via horse and carriage, or better yet, in a sleigh.
" While we do not usually think of it this way, Valentine's Day is also in the winter. You could decorate your wedding venue with hears, roses, and Victorian accents that speak love without saying a word.

Any of these themes can help you have the winter wedding of your dreams.
